Trained as a Nurse with the Queen Alexandras Royal Naval Nursing Sisters, and was promoted to Nursing Officer in the Summer of 1983 as one of the Sisters in the Psychiatric Unit at RNH Haslar in Gosport, Hampshire. Left the QARNNS as a Senior Nursing Officer in Nov 1985. Following the birth of Emily, she worked as a Registered Child Minder until moving to Gibraltar, where she found employment in the Westminster Medical Clinic as a Stress Therapist. On return to UK in August 1995 she obtained employment at the Newbury manor Nursing Home near frome in Somerset. She also worked as a Volunteer helper for Bath NHS Trust assisting people to use their Hearing Aids correctly. On moving to Plymouth in 1998, she started work as Deputy Matron of a Nursing Home.
